INTRODUCTION
Following the introduction of Joint Operation forces into
Indonesia in June, under the code name Typhoon Rising, the
conflict in this Southeast Asian nation looked like it might
finally come to a peaceful conclusion. The Joint Ops forces
achieved initial success in suppressing the Rebel insurgency.
However, during the last month, fighting has escalated as a
result of Rebel troops receiving weapons and logistical support
from underground factions operating in neighboring countries.
As the Rebel troops began using battle tanks, helicopter
gunships, and other heavy weapon systems, the Joint Ops
forces responded in kind. What started out as an insurgency
now threatens to become an all out war.
The Joint Ops: Escalation expansion pack takes you back to
the equatorial islands to fight as a member of either the Joint
Ops forces or those of the Rebels. In addition to new and
improved gameplay features, you can now take control of a
number of additional vehicles, including tanks and dirt bikes, as
well as new weapons and equipment. Also included are several
training missions, co-op missions, and multiplayer missions set
on maps featuring such locales as airports, coal mines,
waterfall ruins and even rocket launch facilities.

If you insert the game disk and nothing happens. installed on your computer. The Joint Ops: Escalation icon will be located in the NovaLogic folder in your Program Files. it cannot be replaced. select either a Training mission or join an online multiplayer game. If you lose it. or open the Windows Start menu. From the main menu of the game. see the detailed instructions found in the Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising manual. You will need to enter the CD Key printed on the inside sleeve of the Joint Ops: Escalation CD case in order to install the game and access NovaWorld. you can jump right into the action. Click on the install button and follow the directions to install the game. For additional information on playing Joint Ops: Escalation. Double-click on the Joint Ops: Escalation icon on your Windows desktop. double-click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop.INSTALLATION Before installing Joint Ops: Escalation. 2 . To install Escalation. type the CD Key into the space provided. then double-click the CD Drive icon. Please remember that it is IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIS CD KEY IN A SAFE PLACE. When prompted. click on the install button and follow the installation instructions. insert the game CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive. You will need this key if you ever reinstall Joint Ops: Escalation. Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. If you have AutoRun enabled. RUNNING THE GAME After installing Joint Ops: Escalation. This CD KEY can only be assigned to one account and cannot be transferred to another account. you must have the original game. you will see the CD menu automatically. When you see the CD menu.

BASE DEFENSE GUN Defending a base is now easier. the muzzle flash and smoke from a rifle will be larger and last a bit longer. Instead. They can then enter the missions again. Furthermore. Snipers will have to spend a bit more time aiming and waiting for the perfect shot. but cannot interact with the environment or chat with other players. Not only does the armor protect the operator from long-range gun fire. Snipers will also notice an increased drift in their scope. This will allow the operator to locate distant targets during any lighting condition and neutralize the threat to the base. As a result. Some bases have been equipped with armor plated . Protective walls have been added around many of the spawn points. these players can then resume play. making it easier to spot Snipers from a distance. they will be given an option to act as a spectator. This added feature will help those people who want to run ‘instant elimination’ type tournaments. further expanding the Joint Operations experience. SNIPER COUNTER MEASURES Several additions have been made to make playing as a Sniper a bit more challenging. 3 . Once the mission is over. the emplacements also feature an advanced optics system with a 10x zoom and combination thermal imaging and night vision. similar to those played at major LAN events. allowing spawning players a chance to gather their bearings before being exposed to enemy fire. players that are killed during a mission will not be allowed to spawn back into the mission.50 cal. PERMANENT DEATH A server setting has been added that will allow a person hosting a game to make a player’s death permanent for the duration of the mission. which will be more pronounced when lining up a shot at long range. machine gun emplacements.

thus reducing the penetrative force. In order to use it again. Parachutes can be steered. As with the Armories. Players are only allowed to use the Rearming Point that is affiliated with their team. The Rearming Points reload the vehicles in a set time. Instead. the body armor will protect the wearer. once a player has used a Rearming Point it will not be available for a short period of time there after. though the response is slower than normal movement. the parachute is considered expended. leaping off of high buildings. Parachutes are deployed automatically after a player has fallen long enough to reach terminal velocity.WHAT’S NEW IN JOINT OPS: ESCALATION PARACHUTES This new piece of equipment can be selected at an armory within your accessory slot in lieu of other equipment. it spreads out the kinetic energy of the round over a larger area. 4 . This functions just like body armor in real life in that it does not deflect a round. Therefore. While body armor can be penetrated by Full Metal Jacket rounds up close where the round has its maximum energy. they can be used for jumping out of helicopters. the player must visit an armory to pick up a new parachute. After the player lands. REARMING POINTS Rearming points will allow the player to rearm the vehicles that do not have infinite ammo. or for simply driving a dirt bike off of a cliff and reaching the bottom safely. at longer distances where the round has lost energy. BODY ARMOR Another piece of equipment available in the accessory slot is ceramic body armor.

for selected weapons. There are three different types of ammo. FULL METAL JACKET (FMJ) This default ammo type is the standard round for most of the world’s fighting forces. 5 . However. ARMOR PEIRCING (AP) An AP round is much more likely to penetrate body armor than a FMJ or SP round. players can also choose the type of rounds. While not as effective against body armor. SOFT POINT (SP) Soft point rounds are identified by their lead tip. SP rounds cause more damage to soft tissue. In addition. that they wish to use during combat. A FMJ round is a bullet encased in a copper-coated jacket. This allows the round to deform and spread while inside soft tissue.NEW WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT Joint Ops: Escalation adds 10 new weapons and equipment to the original arsenal. This is due to the fact that the round is highly resistant to deformation as it passes through soft tissue. This reduces the deformation of the bullet within its target. The metal jacket extends to the tip of the round and then stops. Armor Piercing ammunition causes less damage than the other two types.

COMMON WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT G-3 P90 Firing the same round as a sniper rifle or M60. this mine is detonated when a vehicle passes over it. Therefore. Engineers. It does not come as standard equipment. This submachine gun is great for close quarters battle situations where you need high rates of fire more than accuracy. Once your soldier has a lock on the target and fires. This allows the solider to fire and then seek cover or get away. Once deployed. Rebel Vehicles T-80U This battle tank gives the Rebels some heavy firepower for attacking enemy troops and vehicles. this attack helicopter can take damage to its tail section without losing flight control. With the AH-64A. Cannons and anti-tank missiles allow the KA-52 to engage all types of vehicles. AH-64A This attack helicopter requires both a pilot to fly it and a gunner to control the weapons. 11 . including battle tanks. the Joint Ops has firepower that flies and can support other vehicles and troops during air assaults as well amphibious landings. this battle tank can take on any other vehicle in the game.
